The Bloukrans Bungee

Bloukrans Bungee: A Thrilling Adventure in South Africa

Visiting Bloukrans Bungee in South Africa is an experience that will leave you breathless, both from the adrenaline rush and the stunning views. Located in the Tsitsikamma region, this site offers the world’s highest commercial bridge bungee jump, standing at an impressive 216 meters (709 feet) above the Bloukrans River. Whether you’re a seasoned thrill-seeker or a first-time jumper, Bloukrans promises an unforgettable adventure.

Activities at Bloukrans

Bungee Jumping

The main attraction here is the bungee jump from the Bloukrans Bridge. Open since 1997, the site boasts a perfect safety record, thanks to its use of pendulum bungee technology and a full-body harness system. The jump begins with a zipline ride to the jump point, followed by a leap from the top of the arch. After the jump, a winch ride brings you back up, and you walk along a suspended catwalk with breathtaking views.

SkyWalk Tour and Hang Out Zone

If bungee jumping isn’t your thing, the SkyWalk Tour offers a thrilling alternative. This guided tour includes a visit to the on-site museum, where you can learn about the history of bungee jumping and the engineering marvel of the bridge. The highlight is the walk on the suspended skywalk beneath the bridge, leading to the Hang Out Zone. Here, you can stand on the edge and take in the awe-inspiring views of the gorge below. It’s a perfect spot for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground while still experiencing the thrill.

Zipline

For a quick adrenaline fix, try the zipline, which is also part of the bungee jumping experience. It’s a great way to get a feel for the height and scenery before taking the plunge.

Practical Information

To make the most of your visit, here are some practical tips:

  • Booking: It’s highly recommended to book your activities at least 48 hours in advance, especially during high season, to secure your spot.
  • Age and Weight Restrictions: The minimum age for bungee jumping is 14, and participants must weigh between 35 kg and 150 kg. The SkyWalk is open to those aged 8 and above with parental supervision.
  • Getting There: The nearest major airport is George Airport, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) away. From there, you can rent a car or take a taxi. The site is accessible via the N2 highway from major cities like Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
  • Local Transportation: Once at Bloukrans, taxis and rental cars are available for exploring the area. For a more adventurous option, consider renting a bicycle.

Personal Experience

From the moment I arrived, the crew’s professionalism and friendliness stood out. They created a fun yet safe environment, which put me at ease. I tried the zipline and the SkyWalk twice, and the bungee jump was the highlight of my visit. The views from the bridge are simply breathtaking, and the adrenaline rush is unmatched. Special thanks to Lee-Anzo and the team for their energy and dedication to safety.
