The towers also played a role in observing the new moon during Ramadan, a crucial task for the local community. Restored in 2003, the towers continue to stand as a symbol of Qatar’s resilience and history.

The Barzan Towers are notable for their robust construction and unique architectural features. The walls, one meter thick at the base, are reinforced with buttresses and constructed using coral stones and limestone. The towers’ roofs are built with four layers, including danchal wood poles and woven bamboo strips, designed to withstand the harsh summer sun. Visitors can explore the towers’ interiors, which include a majilis for receiving guests and a mosque that once served as a madrassa.
