Visitors can observe the seal care process, from quarantine to recovery, through glass enclosures. Some seals, due to age or health issues, remain at Ecomare permanently. The facility also houses a ringed seal, a species typically found in the Arctic but occasionally seen in the North Sea. Seal feedings occur daily at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., offering a chance to see these animals up close.

Ecomare features interactive exhibits that provide insights into marine conservation and the Wadden Sea World Heritage. These exhibits are designed to educate visitors about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems.

Traveling to Ecomare is straightforward. Fly into Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which connects to major cities worldwide. From there, take a train to Den Helder, the nearest city to Ecomare. The journey from Den Helder to Ecomare is about 20 minutes by local bus or taxi.

Once at Ecomare, exploring the area is convenient. Bicycles are a popular mode of transport in the Netherlands, and rentals are available for those who prefer to explore at their own pace. The best time to visit Ecomare depends on your preferences. The region experiences a temperate maritime climate. For warmer weather and outdoor activities, visit between June and August. If you prefer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, consider visiting in spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October), when the weather is mild and ideal for exploring the area’s natural beauty.
