Getting to Likoma Island

From there, FlyNyasa offers flights directly to Likoma Island’s aerodrome. Alternatively, you can take the Ilala ferry, which operates twice a week from Nkhota Kota and Nkhata Bay. Be prepared for delays and a crowded experience, as the ferry does not dock at the harbor, requiring a transfer to a smaller boat. For a more comfortable option, the Likoma Express provides a quicker and more direct route from Nkhata Bay or Ngala Beach.

The ideal time to explore Likoma Island is during the dry season, from May to October. This period offers mild weather, perfect for outdoor activities. June to August is particularly pleasant, with comfortable temperatures and clear skies. For a quieter experience, consider visiting in May or October, when the island is less crowded.
