Why Visit Odzala-Kokoua National Park?
Odzala-Kokoua National Park, established in 1935, is one of Africa’s oldest parks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site as of 2023. It offers a unique opportunity to explore a biodiversity hotspot in the Congo Basin. Managed by African Parks since 2010, the park is a sanctuary for a wide array of wildlife and a testament to successful conservation efforts despite challenges like poaching and past civil unrest.

Reaching Odzala-Kokoua National Park requires some planning:
- International Flight: Fly into Maya-Maya Airport in Brazzaville, the capital of Congo.
- Charter Flight: Twice a week, a 2-hour charter flight operates from Brazzaville directly to the park.
Driving from Brazzaville is possible but not recommended due to poor road conditions and a 16-hour journey.
Local Transportation
Once at the park, lodges offer walking and driving activities. Renting a 4×4 in Brazzaville is an option for those who prefer self-driving, but local transportation is generally arranged by the park authorities.
Accommodation Options
The Congo Conservation Company and Odzala Discovery Camps operate three lodges within the park:
- Ngaga Camp: Located just outside the park, this camp is the center for gorilla viewing and consists of six rooms.
- Lango Camp: Nestled in dense gallery forest, this camp overlooks a baï and river, offering six rooms.
- Mboko Camp: Situated along a river tributary, it provides twelve rooms for guests.
