Mapungubwe National Park, located in the northernmost part of South Africa, is a place where history and nature converge. The archaeological sites within the park are a testament to the ingenuity of the Mapungubwe people. Mapungubwe Hill, the site of the royal palace, features remnants of stone walls and platforms used for ceremonies and governance. The nearby Graveyard of the Kings offers insights into the burial rituals of this ancient society.
Best Time to Visit
Plan your visit during the dry winter months, from May to September. The weather is mild, and the vegetation is less dense, making it easier to spot wildlife. Be prepared for high temperatures if you visit during the summer months, and ensure you stay hydrated and protected from the sun.

The nearest major city is Polokwane, approximately 250 km to the south, which has an airport with domestic and regional flights. Musina, about 70 km to the east, is another nearby city. From Polokwane, you can rent a car or join a guided tour to reach the park. Inside the park, explore by car or take advantage of guided game drives and walking safaris.
