About this trip
Explore eastern Sicily on a four-day Mediterranean adventure linking Mount Etna's volcanic landscapes, Taormina's Greek heritage and panoramic terraces, beach time at Isola Bella, and the ancient streets and waterfront of Syracuse and Ortygia.
Based in Catania, the trip combines a guided volcano experience, historic towns, coastal scenery, local cuisine and shared accommodation, with a two- or three-night package according to the selected Billetweb ticket.
Why discover eastern Sicily?
This journey brings together the natural power of Europe's highest active volcano and cities shaped by Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman and Baroque history. It moves from black lava fields and volcanic vents to Taormina's elevated Mediterranean views, Isola Bella's coastline and the historic island of Ortygia.
Highlights
- Mount Etna: guided volcanic experience with the cable car, black lava fields, recent craters, volcanic vents and broad views over the Ionian Sea, subject to safe local operating conditions.
- Taormina: guided discovery of the ancient Greek Theatre, medieval streets, Piazza IX Aprile, the Cathedral of San Nicolò, gardens and panoramic terraces.
- Isola Bella: time by the Mediterranean for swimming, sunbathing, coastal views and photography.
- Syracuse and Ortygia: ancient Greek heritage, Baroque architecture, historic piazzas, sea walls, narrow streets and waterfront scenery.
- Sicilian atmosphere: opportunities to enjoy Pasta alla Norma, seafood, pastries, wine, cafés and relaxed evenings at participants' expense.

Detailed program
Day 0 — Saturday, September 26: arrival in Catania
Participants on the three-night package arrive in Catania, meet the guide and group, and settle into the shared accommodation. Depending on arrival time, explore the historic centre, walk through the city streets, stop for Sicilian gelato or espresso, and join a relaxed dinner in a local trattoria at personal expense.
Day 1 — Sunday, September 27: guided Mount Etna volcano experience
Participants on the two-night package join the group in Catania by 09:00. After breakfast, travel towards Mount Etna for a guided experience on one of Sicily's most extraordinary natural sites.
The planned experience includes the Mount Etna cable car, walks over black lava fields, recent craters and volcanic terrain, with opportunities to observe vents, steam and views towards the Ionian Sea and Sicilian coast. The exact route and access depend on weather, volcanic activity, local restrictions and safety conditions.
Day 2 — Monday, September 28: Taormina and Isola Bella
Travel to Taormina for a guided tour of the hilltop town. Discover the Greek Theatre with Mount Etna in the background, medieval streets and balconies, Piazza IX Aprile, the Cathedral of San Nicolò, gardens, historic architecture and panoramic terraces. The guide presents the Greek, Roman, Arab and Norman influences visible in the town.

After the visit, enjoy a relaxed meal together at personal expense. Depending on the group and availability, this may be in the old town or at a restaurant overlooking the sea. Continue by cable car towards Isola Bella for swimming, sunbathing, relaxation and photographs beside the Mediterranean.
Day 3 — Tuesday, September 29: Syracuse and Ortygia
Leave Catania and travel south towards Syracuse, once one of the most powerful cities of the ancient Mediterranean. Explore Ortygia's Greek heritage, ruins, Baroque buildings and piazzas, sea walls, historic lanes and waterfront views, with time for coffee, Sicilian food and photography at personal expense.

The organized Sicily program ends after the Syracuse and Ortygia visit. The official page names Catania or Catania Airport as the finishing area but also states that no return to the accommodation is planned after this final exploration. Sicily-only participants must therefore continue independently from Syracuse, including by bus towards Catania and the airport when appropriate. Final instructions are confirmed with participants before departure.

This is a great way to escape the city hustle for a day (or longer) and surround yourself with beautiful, calming nature. Our guide Elizabeth was friendly and knowledgeable about the trail. I also met some fun and interesting people along the way. Highly recommend – I’m already planning my next hike with them.

Van Gogh Hiking. Perfect bright sunny day walking at Auvers-sur-Oise by Garrett. More like a stroll. Very easy going. Wandered about the beautiful french village. Garrett had good stories on Van Gogh life in the village. Even brought sun flower for VG grave site. Garrett could be more attentive to all members of the group. Overall, a nice day paying respect to VG.

Wooooooooowwww!
What a trip! First time traveling with a group, and I couldn't possibly have had a better experience. Maddy was so kind and knowledgeable, and kept the activities moving at the perfect pace. Never a dull moment. The accommodation was spot on--location and vibe were perfect. We stayed in Alta, NW for the Northern Lights Trip, and boy did it deliver. It had it all--aurora borealis, wildlife (WHALES! Foxes, reindeer, sea otters, puffins), the scenic fjords, sea cliffs, and tundra. And of course, being able to share the experience with with a group wonderful people really made this a core memory. Same time next year? ✌️

During the 2023 Christmas time, I went to hike in Mallorca, and I had a great time. The scenery in Mallorca is very beautiful. Particularly, when hiking along the route, you can see beautiful mountains, beautiful Mediterranean Sea, and Spanish houses. The blue sky, the fresh air, the light, the buildings, the mountains, ... All the scenes made me feel very calm and comfortable. During the hiking route, we visited Spanish towns, ate Spanish food, enjoyed the beach of the Mediterranean, it’s such a rich hiking trip. And every night we tasted food from different countries, all are very delicious! I thank our guide, thank friends in the group, it’s a wonderful hiking trip!!!

My Finland Northern Lights trip was overall a good experience, made especially smooth by the support from the organising team. A special mention to Maddy, who coordinated the trip efficiently and was always responsive, and to our trip guide Karan, who was friendly, helpful, and ensured things ran well throughout.
The itinerary, however, could use some refinement. For example, the day trip to Santa Village felt a bit unnecessary and that time could have been better spent in Inari, which had more to offer. The last day also felt rushed—we didn’t get enough time at the museum, and the Gold Museum was unfortunately closed (though we still got to try gold panning, which was enjoyable). A slightly more balanced or even shorter itinerary would likely improve the overall experience.
