About this trip
The Polyglot Club community invites you on Sunday, October 4, 2026, for a day combining heritage and nature in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
We will first discover Sisteron, its old town and its spectacular citadel overlooking the Durance Valley. In the afternoon, we will visit Les Mées and the impressive Penitents rock formations.

PROGRAM
A day combining heritage, spectacular scenery and freedom to explore. Your trip coordinator will organise each stage, explain the sightseeing options and clearly indicate all meeting points and times.
1. Departure from Marseille
- Meeting time: 7:30 AM.
- Coach departure: 7:45 AM.
- Meeting point: near Marseille Saint-Charles station, outside the Faculty of Sciences Saint-Charles entrance on Place Victor-Hugo, by the “Faculté Saint-Charles” bus stop.

2. Pickup in Aix-en-Provence
- Meeting time: 8:00 AM.
- Coach departure: 8:15 AM.
- Meeting point: Avenue Henri-Mouret, Bay 28, two minutes on foot from the bus station, on the Casino Partouche side.

3. Sisteron: panoramic views and two sightseeing options
Approximately 3.5 hours on site.
Overlooking the Durance, Sisteron’s Citadel offers one of the most spectacular panoramas in Haute-Provence. From its heights, views extend across the valley, the Sisteron gorge and the surrounding mountains, with visibility reaching up to 150 kilometres.
You can freely choose between two programmes:
Option A — Self-guided visit of the Citadel
Explore the impressive Sisteron Citadel at your own pace, step into eight centuries of history and enjoy striking views over the town, the Durance and the surrounding mountains.
- Group admission: EUR 6.50 per adult with at least 10 visitors.
- Admission is not included in the trip price.
- Because of the slope and numerous steps, this visit is difficult for people with reduced mobility.
Option B — Old Town and exhibition fair
Stroll at your own pace through the Old Town’s narrow streets and squares, discover its viewpoints over the Durance and enjoy the free exhibition fair taking place that Sunday.
Lunch: Citadel visitors should bring a picnic. Other participants can use the food options available in the village.
4. Les Mées: panoramic views from the Penitents Rocks
Approximately 3.5 hours on site.
Rising more than 100 metres above the valley, the Penitents Rocks form a unique and spectacular natural landscape. The ridge trail offers remarkable panoramas over the rocks, the village, the Durance Valley and Lure Mountain.
On arrival, your trip coordinator will explain the routes, safety instructions and meeting point. You can then explore freely according to your interests and abilities: discover the village, walk part of the way towards the Penitents or complete the full loop.
The walks and hike are self-guided: your trip coordinator does not lead them or supervise participants on the trail.
The full 4.5 km loop is optional, has approximately 230 m of elevation gain and takes around 2 hours. It is rated moderate and requires no previous hiking experience. It is suitable for people in generally good physical condition who can walk on a trail with uphill sections, steps and a few exposed passages. Suitable walking shoes are recommended.
You can adapt your walk and turn back at any time. Anyone preferring a gentler activity can remain in the village or complete only part of the route.
5. Returns
- Expected arrival in Aix-en-Provence at approximately 6:30 PM.
- Expected arrival in Marseille at approximately 7:00 PM.
Return times are indicative and may vary depending on traffic.

All ages, all nationalities, and all language levels are welcome.
You can come alone, as a couple, with your family, or with friends.

A deposit of 9 € is required at booking, the remaining balance of 30 € is to be paid on site.

A deposit of 15 € is required at booking, the remaining balance of 30 € is to be paid on site.
• Standard rate: 59 €
(valid from October 2, 2026 until departure time).
A deposit of 29 € is required at booking, the remaining balance of 30 € is to be paid on site.

Next to Marseille Saint-Charles station, by the entrance to the Faculty of Sciences Saint-Charles on Place Victor-Hugo, at the “Faculté Saint-Charles” bus stop.

Avenue Henri-Mouret, Quai 28, two minutes on foot from the bus station, on the Casino Partouche side of the avenue. Groups are now picked up at Quai 28, not Quai 25.

To be fully refunded, you must purchase the cancellation insurance option available on our ticketing platform. In the absence of cancellation insurance, you can still transfer your ticket to another person for free. In this case, please inform us of the name of the person to whom you have transferred the ticket.
Late Arrival
We reserve the right to refuse participation to individuals arriving late for the first departure of the bus at the meeting point.
Non-Payment
We also reserve the right to refuse participation to individuals who have not paid the balance before the bus departs.
Participation of People with Disabilities
To ensure the safety and well-being of all our participants, we recommend that people with disabilities be accompanied by a support person throughout the excursion. Your safety is our priority, and by informing us in advance of your specific needs, we can ensure the best possible experience for you. If participation is not possible for safety reasons, a full refund will be offered.
Participation of Minors
Minor children must be accompanied by their parents, legal representatives, or guardians to participate. No waiver can be signed by our guides. If a minor arrives alone, we will not be able to allow their participation in the excursion, and a full refund will be offered.
