Luberon: L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Gordes and Colorado Provençal
Join Polyglot Club on Sunday, April 11, 2027 for a cultural day of language exchange in the Luberon, travelling by coach from Marseille and Aix-en-Provence. We are returning to the three stops of our 2026 excursion: L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Gordes and the Colorado Provençal in Rustrel.
The day begins beside the canals of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, with its waterwheels, antique shops and Sunday morning Provençal market. We then continue to Gordes to discover its stone buildings, explore the village lanes and enjoy views over the Luberon landscape.
Our final visit takes us into the Colorado Provençal’s ochre scenery. A walk on marked trails offers opportunities to observe the colours and formations, following a route suited to the time available and the group’s abilities. Between visits, there will be time for photographs, independent exploring and lunch at your own expense.
Your Polyglot Club coordinator accompanies the day in French and English and encourages conversation between participants. Come alone or with friends to share the discoveries and practise languages in a friendly atmosphere. The programme follows our historical itinerary; timings remain provisional and will be confirmed before booking opens.

PROGRAMME – L’ISLE-SUR-LA-SORGUE, GORDES AND COLORADO PROVENÇAL
This itinerary follows the three stops of the 2026 trip. The 2027 timings remain provisional and will be confirmed with the coach company and venues before sales open.
1. Departure from Marseille
Planned departure at 7:00 am beside the entrance to the Faculty of Science Saint-Charles, Place Victor Hugo. Arrive 15 minutes early; the meeting-point block below gives the exact location.
2. Pickup in Aix-en-Provence
Planned departure at 7:45 am from Avenue Henri-Mouret, Quai 28, on the Partouche Casino side. Arrive 15 minutes before departure.
3. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

1) Canals and waterwheels
Nicknamed the Venice of Comtat, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a delightful little town! Strolling along the Sorgue River is relaxing and romantic. The charming antique shops lining the canals and the picturesque waterwheels add a distinctive charm.
2) Town centre and Provençal market
Enjoy this first stop by walking beside the water and through the centre, observing the wheels and discovering the Provençal market normally held on Sunday mornings. Purchases are optional. This is not the floating market, which is a summer event. The Provençal market.
4. Gordes

1) Stone village and viewpoints
Gordes is also ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Perched on a rocky outcrop of the Vaucluse Mountains, it faces the Luberon massif. Its flat limestone constructions display refined craftsmanship and blend with the surrounding landscape.
Explore the stone lanes and accessible viewpoints. The village is discovered on foot, with slopes and cobbles.
2) Independent lunch break
Free time will allow a lunch break according to the day’s progress: choose a restaurant or bring a picnic, at your own expense. No monument admission in Gordes is included.
5. Colorado Provençal in Rustrel

1) Discover the ochre scenery
Among the region’s remarkable sites, the Colorado Provençal offers an extraordinary exploration of colour. Marked paths lead through striking landscapes of warm, vivid ochre. Walking its trails and looking at its formations reveals a geological history spanning thousands of years, also shaped by former ochre extraction.
2) The two trails and choosing our walk
- Sahara: 2.1 km, approximately 40 minutes, 10 m elevation gain.
- Belvédères: 3.9 km, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, 70 m elevation gain; includes the Sahara, with stones, roots and more demanding sections.
The route will depend on trail opening, available time and the group’s abilities. Sandy paths are unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Bring suitable shoes and water. Official trail information.
