If you’re seeking a unique blend of history, art, and culture in Taipei, Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a destination worth exploring. This site, once a bustling winery, now serves as a vibrant hub for artists and creatives. Let’s dive into its fascinating history, explore its artistic offerings, and learn how to make the most of your visit.

The Historical Journey of Huashan 1914 Creative Park

Huashan 1914 Creative Park began its life as Taihoku Winery in 1914, during the Japanese colonial period. Initially, it was a privately owned winery producing sake and ginseng wines. By 1922, the Japanese government took over, renaming it the Taiwan Governor-General’s Monopoly Bureau, Taihoku Wine Factory, and shifted production to rice wine and liquors.

After World War II, the Republic of China government assumed control, and the facility underwent several name changes, eventually becoming the Taiwan Province Tobacco and Wine Government Monopoly Bureau, Taipei First Winery. It was known for producing Taibai Liquor, a popular cassava-based drink. In the mid-1960s, the focus shifted to fruit wines, marking a golden era for the winery.

However, rapid urbanization in the 1980s led to its closure, and the site was left idle until the late 1990s. In 2003, the Council for Cultural Affairs took over, transforming it into a creative park that opened in 2005. Today, it stands as a testament to Taiwan’s commitment to preserving history while fostering artistic expression.
