Sóller is a picturesque town located on the northwest coast of Mallorca, Spain. Known for its citrus and olive production, Sóller was historically more connected to the sea than to the rest of the island due to the surrounding Tramuntana Mountains. The town’s accessibility improved significantly in 1997 with the construction of a road tunnel beneath Coll de Sóller.

Sóller’s history is rich and varied, with influences from the Moors who once settled here. The town’s architecture reflects this blend of cultures, particularly in its historic center, where narrow streets are lined with buildings showcasing Moorish and Spanish styles. A key landmark is the Church of Sant Bartomeu, which began construction in the early 13th century. The church features a mix of architectural styles, including a neogothic bell tower and a facade designed in 1904 by Joan Rubió i Bellver, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí.
The town is vibrant with cultural events, including the Fira de Sóller, which celebrates its agricultural heritage with parades, music, and food. Visitors can also explore the Museu de Sóller, housed in a 19th-century building, and the Ca’n Prunera Museum, an Art Nouveau mansion exhibiting modern art.

Reaching Sóller is straightforward. It’s 24 km north of Palma de Mallorca on Highway Ma-11, with a tunnel bypassing the mountain pass. For a scenic route, take the historic Ferrocarril de Sóller train from Palma, which runs six times a day and offers a nostalgic journey through the countryside. Once in Sóller, the town is best explored on foot, although local buses and a tram connect to nearby areas, including Port de Sóller.

The ideal times to visit Sóller are spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. Summer attracts more tourists due to the proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, but it can be hot and crowded. If visiting in summer, be prepared for higher temperatures and bustling streets.
