Location and Landscape
Pieniny National Park is situated in the northern part of Slovakia, close to the Polish border. The park is part of the Pieniny mountain chain, which is divided into three ranges: Pieniny Spiskie, Małe Pieniny, and the Pieniny Właściwe range, where the park is located. The park covers an area of 23.46 square kilometers (9.06 square miles), with 13.11 square kilometers forested, and one-third of the park is strictly protected.
The park’s landscape is defined by the Pieniny Mountains and the Dunajec River Gorge. The gorge, carved by the river over millions of years, offers stunning views and is a popular spot for river rafting. The rafting season runs from April 1 to October 31, excluding Corpus Christi and the first day of Easter.
Unique Flora and Fauna
