Loterie Farm

When visiting Sint Maarten, a trip to Loterie Farm is a must. Located on the French side of the island, this eco-friendly sanctuary offers a mix of adventure and relaxation. My visit started with a taxi ride from the port, which took about 30 minutes and cost around $40 each way. Renting a car is another option if you prefer more flexibility.

The Jungle Pool Experience

Arriving around 10 a.m., I was greeted by the lush surroundings of the jungle pool. True to its name, the pool is enveloped by palm and mango trees, creating a serene oasis. The cascading smaller pools are perfect for a refreshing swim, and you might even spot iguanas lounging nearby. Note that children are welcome in the jungle pool only on weekdays.

Dining and Relaxation

The food at Loterie Farm is exceptional. I highly recommend the tuna poke bowl and the sampler platter, though the latter is quite generous, so consider sharing. Renting a cabana was a great choice for our group of nine, providing ample space and comfort. Reservations are advisable, especially if you plan to rent a cabana or cabinita.

Activities and Adventures

While I didn’t try the zipline, it looked exhilarating and is a popular activity here. For those interested in hiking, be prepared for a challenging trek. The trails are not for beginners, so proper footwear and plenty of water are essential. The hike is self-guided, so familiarize yourself with the landmarks and directions beforehand. Complimentary hiking sticks are available and highly recommended.

Timing Your Visit

To make the most of your day, arrive as soon as the pool opens. By 1:30 p.m., the area becomes noticeably busier. After a day of exploration, the jungle pool offers a perfect spot to unwind with a cool drink.

Final Thoughts

Each visit to Loterie Farm offers a unique experience. The staff is attentive, and the natural beauty of the surroundings is captivating. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is a place that leaves a lasting impression. My friend from London, whom I hadn’t seen in nearly three decades, was equally enchanted by the experience. It’s a destination I never miss when hosting guests on the island.
