Exploring Kolešino Falls

Looking for a destination that combines natural beauty and tranquility? Consider Kolešino Falls in southeastern North Macedonia. Located above the village of Kolešino in the Municipality of Novo Selo, this waterfall offers a serene escape amidst the forested slopes of Mount Belasica.

The Beauty of Kolešino Falls

Kolešino Falls is a stunning natural feature where water from the Baba River cascades over stone cliffs at a height of 19 meters (62 feet). The waterfall’s intensity varies with the seasons, offering a different experience each time you visit. In spring, the falls are particularly powerful due to rainfall, while in winter, the streams may freeze, creating a unique spectacle.

Features of the Area

  • Accessibility: The site is open year-round and features a wooden bridge for viewing, benches, and a picnic area with a gazebo and grilling facilities.
  • Biodiversity: The surrounding forest is rich in flora and fauna, making it a great spot for nature enthusiasts.
  • Hiking Opportunities: Well-marked trails offer scenic hikes with views of the waterfall and the lush landscape.
  • Photography: Capture the beauty of cascading water and vibrant wildlife in this picturesque setting.

Best Time to Visit

Visit in spring or summer for the fullest waterfall experience and blooming nature. If you prefer a quieter visit, autumn offers a more serene atmosphere. Keep in mind that winter can bring icy conditions, which might limit access but also provide a unique view of the frozen falls.

Getting There

To reach Kolešino Falls, fly into Skopje International Airport. From there, it’s about a two-hour drive. Renting a car is recommended for flexibility, but you can also take a bus to the nearby town of Kolešino and then a local taxi or hike to the falls.

Local Transportation

Once at Kolešino Falls, exploring the area is straightforward. The road network connects you to nearby villages and attractions. Renting a car offers the most freedom, but local taxis are available and can be arranged through accommodations.

While Kolešino Falls is a beautiful destination, be prepared for limited amenities as the site is still under development. Future plans include a restaurant, hotel, and improved access roads, but for now, pack accordingly and enjoy the natural setting.
