Beidaihe District, located in Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, is a well-known beach resort along China’s Bohai Sea coast. With an area of 70.14 km2 and a population of around 130,104 as of 2020, it offers a 22.5 km stretch of coastline. This district is not only famous for its beaches but also as a haven for birdwatchers.

Beidaihe Beach Resort

The Beidaihe Beach Resort extends 10 km from east to west, from Yinjiao Pavilion to the mouth of the Daihe River. The beach is covered with fine yellow sand that stretches about 100 meters to the sea, and the water is shallow, making it ideal for families. Nearby, Mount Lianfeng offers two peaks adorned with lush pines and cypresses, adding to the scenic beauty. The area is dotted with caves, decorated pavilions, secluded paths, and winding bridges, attracting visitors from across China.

Visiting in June

During my visit in June, I found the beach well-maintained, though the water was a bit chilly for swimming. Despite its proximity to Beijing, the beach was surprisingly quiet on a weekday, with only a few beachgoers and even fewer in the water. The atmosphere was serene, perfect for a relaxing getaway.

Early Morning at the Beach

Arriving at the beach around 6 a.m., I was greeted by a lively scene. Many people were already enjoying the morning, and some shops were open. The weather was pleasant, and it was heartwarming to see seniors accompanied by their families. The early hours offered a lovely atmosphere for a brisk walk and exploring the rocks.

Weather Considerations

The weather was generally fine, though it was windy at times, with occasional sandstorms. The cool water was refreshing, but what surprised me was the need to purchase a ticket to view certain stone sculptures on the beach. It was a bit crowded during my visit, but the experience was still enjoyable.
