Capitale multiculturelle du Grand-duché, située au cœur de l’Europe, Luxembourg City est une charmante ville dont les vieux quartiers et les fortifications sont classés au patrimoine de l’UNESCO. Cité historique, elle était l’une des plus puissantes forteresses d’Europe jusqu’au 19e siècle.
Incontournables de LUXEMBOURG :
• La Vieille Ville, dont la construction remonte au Xème siècle, est perchée sur un éperon rocheux au-dessus de belles gorges et vallées, enjambées par de nombreux ponts
• Le Chemin de la Corniche, allée piétonne sur les remparts qui longe la rivière de l’Alzette jusqu’à la porte de Grund et constitue une superbe balade où l’on peut admirer les façades et les toits des maisons de la ville. La Corniche est surnommée « le plus beau balcon de l’Europe »
• Le Grund, petit quartier incroyablement pittoresque et branché, le Grund se trouve au fond de la vallée de la Pétrusse. Quelques-unes des maisons de pierre sont construites à même la roche. Dans ce quartier se trouve un pont du XVème siècle, les remparts de l’ancienne forteresse, des jardins et des vignes en terrasses, un assortiment de pubs et de restaurants (c’est le quartier où sortir à Luxembourg), et l’Abbaye de Neumünster.
• Les Casemates du Bock, classés au Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO. Ce dédale de tunnels comptent parmi les attractions les plus en vue et les galeries souterraines les plus longues du monde. Les casemates qui formaient jadis un extraordinaire réseau de 23 km ont été taillées à travers les falaises de pierre (le rocher du Bock) afin de permettre aux populations de à se cacher et se protéger pendant les sièges et les guerres.

A historic city, it was one of Europe’s most powerful fortresses until the 19th century. Highlights of LUXEMBOURG: • The Old Town, dating back to the 10th century, perched on a rocky spur overlooking beautiful gorges and valleys, spanned by many bridges • The Corniche Pathway, pedestrian alley along the walls running along the Alzette River up to the Grund gate.
